Hull cleaning – GelCoat protection
Keeping your boat’s hull water line clean and free of blemishes is important not only for aesthetic reasons but also efficiency and speed. It also helps to maintain the paint and gel-coat. The hulls of all ships and boats are exposed to several harmful elements which may affect the function and performance of the vessel. The surface quickly fades and becomes dull if it is neglected. Oxidation is basically the gel-coat material deteriorating and this shows up visually as a dull, rough and chalky looking finish. If oxidation is left uncorrected, it will accelerate. The rough, deteriorated surface will retain water inside its top layer more than a smooth, hard, shiny, protected surface. Regular maintenance helps prevent oxidation.
At ChiefMate we believe that the quality outcomes that we provide come from our professional and enthusiastic approach to our work combined with high quality materials. Traditionally boat-owners have used wax on their exposed surfaces, but the wax doesn’t last more than three months. Instead we work with Dulon Products which not only give a fantastic shine, but adds long-term quality protection against:
- UV ray damage;
- Bird droppings;
- Salt; and Grime
The benefits of using Dulon are:
- It protects both gel coat and painted surfaces;
- Lasts 3 to 4 times longer than other polishes;
- Only needs to be applied twice a year;
- Is totally water based, biodegradable and safe for users and the environment; and
- It maximises the resale value of your boat.
